Frequently Asked Questions

Do students have to audition to get accepted at GMG Music Center?

No. Students do not have to audition to get in, however because we have limited space in each program when a

student is enrolled they are on what we call a 3 month performance period. This means that if the student is not

performing at a steady pace due to loss of interest, lack of practice or lack of discipline they will be evaluated and

other options will be considered.

Will I need to bring my child to the appointment?

Yes, especially if your child is between the ages of 4-6 years old. Although students as young as 4 years old may be enrolled in GMG Music Center we know that they must be ready. This assessment is necessary to determine whether or not your child is ready.

What do you look for to determine whether a child is ready to enroll in GMG Music Center?

Our curriculum for children ages 4-6 years old incorporates movement, singing and coloring so we are not requiring young students to know how to read or write. In general, children should be able to understand and follow basic directions, and they must possess an ability to focus and attend to a subject for a given period of time. They must also demonstrate a certain amount of fine and even gross motor skills, based upon which instrument of study is chosen. Most importantly, they should be able to show some enthusiasm to learn. Our goal is that your child has a positive experience with music and possibly obtains a lifetime of enjoyment through the art.

Do students have opportunities to perform?

Yes! We have two recitals a year, the Winter Music Celebration and our Annual Music Celebration concert. Students will also have an opportunity to showcase their talent throughout the year using the GMG Performance Center as well as through community performances.

Do I need my own instrument?

Yes, students need access to his/her own instrument.

What is your discipline policy?

We have a no-tolerance discipline policy. If a student is being disruptive during class they will be presented with a warning sheet. The parent(s) or guardian must sign it acknowledging that they were informed of their child’s behavior. After three warnings the child is dismissed from GMG Music Center. Other options may be considered, but only upon the discretion of the director.

What other types of products and services are offered through GMG Music Center?

GMG Music Center will soon be offering instructional DVD’s, CD’s and e-books which will be made available through our online store. Workshops and seminars are held in the GMG Performance Center, the registration process and calendar are available online.

Are these clinics available in other cities?

Yes, the director of GMG Music Center is available to travel throughout the US presenting workshops and clinics for musicians through host churches, individuals and organizations. If you are interested in hosting a workshop in your town or city please contact us.
